St. Thorlak

the Summer Feast of St. Thorlak

On July 19th we are celebrating the Summer Feast of St. Thorlak.
Before the reformation this day was one of the largest feast days in Iceland. It was first celebrated in 1198, when the bones of St. Thorlak were exhumed and transferred to a shrine in Skálholt.
At the festival there will be plenty of fun activities for the whole family: a bounce castle and games for the children, barbecue and drinks, market stalls, a coffee house, and much more.
Organist Márton Wirth will conclude the celebration with a magnificent concert in Landakotskirkja.
Admission is free, but hotdogs, cakes, and other treats will be sold. All proceeds will go to a fund dedicated to St. Thorlak.
Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate this day in honor of St. Thorlak, the patron saint of Iceland.
